Diploma Yi Jin

[Important Reminder] The maximum period of study for the Diploma Yi Jin Programme is 5 years from the date of admission. Students must complete all programme requirements and apply for graduation before the expiry of this period. For example:

Part-time 1 February 2022 on or before 31 January 2027

Any subjects not completed by the deadline will not be counted, and this may affect the student’s eligibility for graduation. Students are therefore advised to plan their studies well in advance.

The Diploma Yi Jin (DYJ), formerly known as Yi Jin Diploma and as a replacement of the former Project Yi Jin, aims at providing an alternate pathway for Secondary Six school leavers as well as adult learners to obtain a formal qualification for the purposes of further study and employment.

Commissioned by the Education Bureau to develop and administer DYJ,  FSTE introduced DYJ in the academic year 2012/13.  Effective from the academic year 2023/24, DYJ is available solely in part-time study mode and to current DYJ students.  Students must complete all subjects within 5 years from initial admission to the programme in order to be awarded the diploma.

Objectives

The Diploma Yi Jin programme aims to
  • provide an alternative pathway for secondary six school leavers as well as adult learners to obtain a formal qualification for the purposes of employment and further study;
  • equip students with an array of generic skills and general knowledge including basic language skills, information technology skills, mathematical reasoning skills and interpersonal skills, thereby enabling them to build a firm foundation in these aspects; and
  • stimulate students’ learning drive and facilitate them in developing self-study skills for the pursuit of further study independently.

Recognition of Qualification

The Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) has confirmed that the qualification of DYJ is comparable to the attainment of Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese and English in the Hong Kong Diploma for Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination. For those who have successfully completed the Maths Plus elective course, the qualification acquired under DYJ is comparable to the attainment of Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese, English and Mathematics in the HKDSE Examination.

Articulation Pathway

The Diploma Yi Jin is accepted by FSTE Member Institutions as meeting the admission criteria of their Associate Degree and Higher Diploma or equivalent programmes. For those who have successfully completed the Maths Plus elective course, the qualification obtained is accepted by the FSTE Member Institutions as meeting the admission criteria of programmes requiring the attainment of Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in the HKDSE Examination.

Employment Prospect

The Diploma Yi Jin is accepted by the Government as meeting the academic entry requirement of over 30 civil service posts which require Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese Language and English Language in the HKDSE Examination, including:

  • Assistant Officer II (Correctional)

Programme Structure

The Programme Structure and Mode of Study is as follows:
Contact Hours: 600 hours in total
Core Courses: Chinese (120 contact hours)

English (120 contact hours)

Mathematics (60 contact hours)

Liberal studies (60 contact hours)

Communication Skills (60 contact hours)

The curricula for these core subjects were centrally developed and are common among different institutions.

Elective Courses: Students need to opt for an Elective Cluster, which comprises three designated elective courses account for 180 contact hours in total.

A wide array of elective subjects, which are mainly of practical nature, are offered to cater for different interests and aptitudes of students. The curricula for the elective subjects were developed by the respective institutions.

Mode of Study: Full-time (one year) or part-time (normally two years)
