Introduction
The Professional Staff Development Workshop aims at providing participants a platform to share hands on experiences with colleagues from varied backgrounds and disciplines, where they are allowed to demonstrate their understanding of theories and concepts learned from the ITTP.

Structure
Each workshop is normally of 6 hours, depending on the specific design of different them. In cohort of 2011-12, four series of workshops were organized for those who have attended the ITTP, and details are as follows:

Workshop 1 (6 hours): Alignment of Assessment with Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
Participants are expected to be able to:

  • Describe how selected objective type questions (e.g. multiple-choices, short answers etc) and performance tasks (e.g. projects, presentation etc) measure the knowledge and capabilities of students
  • Interpret the proxies of knowledge and skills of different levels of ILOs
  • Suggest a number of assessment activities to match the ILOs of a particular programme
  • Organize the suggested assessment activities into a number of tasks with criteria for accountability, certification and programme improvement purposes

Workshop 2 (6 hours):  Designing assessment activity 1: Group project and the scoring rubrics
Participants are expected to be able to:

  • Describe the nature and the learning outcomes that can be reflected by the activities of Group Project
  • Select ILOs where Group Project will be a better activity to measure student performance
  • Formulate the project brief to convert the expectations of the project to students
  • Draft the related assessment rubrics for scoring the example Group Project

Workshop 3 (6 hours): Handling student problems and problem students
Participants are expected to be able to:

  • Identify the key characteristics of target students and the strategies to build rapport with them
  • Identify student problems and apply basic counseling and intervention skills to help students
